Former president Donald Trump could plunge the US into “civil war”, a mouthpiece for Russia and Vladimir Putin has claimed.
Russian radio and television presenter Vladimir Solovyov reckoned that, following his recent indictment, Trump’s only remaining option is to go to war with his own country.
Chatting with political scientist Dmitry Evstafiev on his show Full Contact, Solovyov was speaking about Trump’s involvement in the January 6 Capitol Riots.

On Thursday (August 3), the 45th president of the US pleaded not guilty to charges that he helped facilitate the unrest in a bid to overturn the 2020 presidential election, which saw Joe Biden win.
Trump was charged on August 1 with conspiracy to defraud the US, conspiracy to obstruct an official proceeding, obstruction of and attempt to obstruct an official proceeding, and conspiracy against rights.
Russian Media Monitor has since posted a translation of the footage on Full Contact, in which Solovyov said he had "never seen or heard of anything like this in my entire life. In America, they are attempting to destroy Trump, and to do it unbelievably fast."
Evstafiev, an academic at HSE University in Moscow, then added: "We don't see the United States as a vessel of wisdom or the origin of democracy but it seems like we are not even aware of some aspects of this situation."
He added: "Like a steamroller in violation of the written and unwritten norms they are trying to quickly shut down the former president of the United States, or so they say. I have to tell you, this is really something! This means that things are really bad!"
No clarification was given as to who “they” was in reference to.
Without any further clarification, he started speaking about “big money people,” saying: "To them, Trump is a lesser evil than all the rest. I understand these big money people! A moron as their president is better than a nuclear war. These events are snowballing, that's for sure."
Solovyov then asked what options remained for Trump, offering up suggestions of taking up arms and starting a civil war, to which Evstafiev said: “He is practically doing this already, [or] at least he's getting close.
“During his Pennsylvania rally, he practically said that, he said something to the effect of 'dear citizens, stand strong, unite, nuclear war is behind us.'"
