Richard Huckle was tied up and gagged, his jaw broken.
He was strangled with electrical cable, raped, and then died after a prison "shank" – a pen with a blade attached to it – was shoved through his nose into his brain.
His killer later admitted to wanting to cook and eat parts of his body.
Normally such a savage murder would lead to an outpouring of public sadness, horror and disgust.
But Richard Huckle was no ordinary victim – he was notorious for being "Britain's worst paedophile" who abused literally hundreds of children and babies in a vile nine-year campaign of sickening depravity so vile it was his own parents who eventually dobbed him in.
Brought up in a middle class, church going family in Kent, the grammar school boy was described as "quiet, a bit of a loner, but nothing out of the ordinary."
After finishing school, like many students he decided to take a gap year before university, and combine travelling with teaching English overseas.
He then began a sickening tour of Asian countries, abusing children right across the continent.
His first stop was Cambodia in 2006, where he systematically raped two sisters, aged four and six, for months.
Using his supposedly Christian background, he would volunteer at orphanages to prey on vulnerable children.

Communities loved and respected the supposedly gentle and generous Englishman who would take kids on days out to theme parks, for photography lessons or teach them English.
In reality, he was carrying out almost unimaginable sickening attacks on his victims, some of whom were still in nappies.
Having joined a secret society of sickos on the dark web called "The Love Zone", Huckle even posed as a travel photographer to make it easier to take twisted photos and videos which he would sell online to other perverts to fund his travels,
In a series of postings in 2013 he admitted sexually abusing four girls from the same family, and even kept a sick ledger of his attacks.
He would give himself points for the level of abuse he carried out on the kids and, under his own sick rules, would not win points if he abused the same child in the same week.
Twisted paedo raped child victim and made them watch sex acts
He even wrote a guide to sexual abuse, which he called "Pedophiles & Poverty: Child Lover Guide". In one part of the 60-page manual, he said: "I'd hit the jackpot, a three-year-old girl as loyal to me as my dog and nobody seemed to care."
He bragged: "Impoverished kids are definitely much, much easier to seduce than middle-class Western kids."
However, his online activities were thankfully to prove his downfall.
Australian cops launched an operation against sex tourism and noted one Aussie Love Zone member always started conversations with the word "hiyas".
They trawled through hundreds of chatrooms until they found a man who used the same greeting.
When they raided his house he was actually online running the sick site. They took detailed photographs of his hands and found a freckle which exactly matched one seen in many of the images of abuse.

He was arrested, but cops assumed his identity online and gathered information to catch other members.
When Huckle returned to the UK for Christmas in 2014 he was arrested, but then bailed while UK police investigated his crimes. He then made a drunken confession to his parents who immediately kicked him out and called the police.
Despite much of the evidence of his crimes being locked in a hi-tech vault on his laptop, which police could not crack, originally prosecutors planned to hold separate three trials as it was felt juries would not be able to stomach seeing too much of the evidence.
In 2016 he eventually pleaded guilty to committing at least 71 offences against 23 children and given 22 life sentences. It is believed the real number of victims was around 200.
He was sent to Full Sutton prison where he met a grisly end at the hands of his cellmate, who was also serving for serious sexual assault.
One thing is for certain. The children whose lives he ruined will shed no tears over his fate.
