Topless XR protester announces she’s taking break after ‘trolling’ and ‘misogny’

Laura Amherst, the Extinction Rebellion activist who hit headlines around the world with her nearly-nude protests, has announced that she is taking a break from social media to focus on what’s really important to her – her family and her activism.

In a tearful Instagram video she said that she had “pushed herself to the limit of what she can do” and was experiencing a lot of trolling and misogynistic comments from other Instagram users, as well as “harsh” penalties from the social media platform itself.

In her emotional video, she said that she had fainted, bruising her arm and leg, and blamed the collapse on the stress of her online life.

She said that the most important thing was to focus on environmental concerns, saying that if there wasn’t a habitable planet for her daughter to live in 10 or 20 years from now then there was “no real point going on”.

“Thanks to everyone who has been supportive and kind to me on this journey,” she wrote, “you mean the world to me”.

She promised that she would return to the platform again in the near future to update followers on how much she had raised for environmental concerns with her OnlyFans account and other initiatives.

She's always defended her attention-grabbing topless protests: "If me taking my clothes off can help save the planet then why not?" she says.

Laura has raised significant sums for Extinction Rebellion by selling “booby stuff” as she puts it.

“Update on my fan site,” she announced in a previous Instagram post. “Made £1200 in the first two days".

“If it carries on like this," she added, "£18,000 a month – every month – for these amazing causes doesn’t sound half bad, but we will see the numbers!

Hitting back her numerous critics, Laura said: "I wish all the keyboard warriors applied the same scrutiny and standards to industry and billion-pound corporations as they do to the common person trying to make a difference in this issue. I wish you even applied the same standards to yourself!

Laura signed off her latest post by saying that “despite the media and government not treating this seriously enough” the planet is in a state of climate emergency, and that our children’s lives are at risk.
