Three brothers win £400,000 after playing same lottery numbers for 40 years

Three brothers who played the same lottery numbers for 40 years have scooped a £400,000 jackpot.

The siblings have stuck to the same digits every week since they started to play the game decades ago.

And their tradition has finally paid off after they landed the grand prize on Saturday.

The trio, from Richmond, Victoria in Australia, won $511,000 – nearly £400,000 – in the TattsLotto draw.

The brothers have not yet gone public

One brother said he had to spend 10 minutes double checking the ticket to make sure he had not made a mistake when he saw the win.

He then had the pleasure of telling the other two about their success, MailOnline reports.

He said: “The win will be shared between my two brothers and me.

“It’s a great amount of money. It will be a nice bonus.

“We play every week. We’ve been playing these same numbers for 40 years.

“I don't remember why we chose these numbers exactly.

“All I know was 40 years ago we each wrote down numbers and selected a ticket to play.

“We've been playing ever since.”

He went on: “I checked the ticket a number of times before checking the website a number of times.

“I just wanted to make sure it was confirmed and re-confirmed before I told them.

“Once I realised it was true, I had the honour and pleasure of telling my brothers we were division one winners.

“It was a great feeling to be able to call them and let them know.”

The numbers which landed them their winnings were 28, 7, 36, 1, 42, and 22, with the supplementary numbers 14 and 11.

The lucky ticket was bought at Winning Post in Richmond, owned by Paul Vo and Loan Nguyen.

The owners said: “This is the third division one winning entry we’ve sold at our outlet this year.”
