Student dies in forest shootout in front of girlfriend after hermit hijacks car

A student was shot and killed in front of his girlfriend after being ambushed by a woman who pretended she needed help in an Alabama forest.

Adam Simjee and his girlfriend, Mikayla Paulus, had been driving down a remote country road in Talladega National Forest when they were ‘flagged down’ by a hysterical woman.

The woman, who has been identified as Yasmine Hider reportedly ‘asked the couple if they could give her some assistance to help get her car started.’

However, when Adam gave assistance, Hider allegedly pulled out a gun in an attempted robbery and forced the couple into the woods.

Unwilling to be robbed, Simjee produced his own handgun that he had concealed and a shootout began in which Hider was shot multiple times in the torso.

Tragically, Simjee was also struck by gunfire and died at the scene.

Paulus tried to perform CPR on her boyfriend but failed and then called the police and Hider was taken to hospital where she underwent surgery.

She remains in hospital and has been charged one count of murder, two counts of kidnapping and two counts of robbery.

Hider was determined to live off grid in the forest, according to authorities.

After police arrived, cops found a secluded base camp half a mile from where the shooting occurred.
