An apartment tower in Ulsan, an industrial city northwest of Busan and nearby capitol Seoul, saw a massive fire spread throughout the building. Authorities believed the blaze started on the 12th floor of the 33 layer tower. Firefighters were at the scene tackling the incident, with evacuation orders in place for residents.
The Samhwan Art Nouveau commercial and residential building was engulfed by the fire at around 11:07pm local time (2:07pm BST).
Reports say the blaze has now been put out after flames swept across all floors of the tower.
Hundreds were evacuated due to the fire, with some taking to the rooftop with no other way to escape.
The fire is believed to have broken out on the 12th floor, before spreading down to the 8th layer and setting fire to some 120 households and shopping units.
Local firefighters said around 88 people were treated for smoke inhalation and had been rushed to a nearby hospital.
Ulsan Fire Department also reported 43 residents were evacuated to the rooftop of the burning building awaiting rescue.
They also reported unfavourable and strong winds made it harder to control the fire as it caused havoc.
The winds spread the flames across the left side of the building, quickly bringing the situation out of control.
The winds also blew flames onto a shopping centre next to the apartment complex, which has also been put out by the firefighters.
Once the fire was under control, firefighters began searching for any remaining residents.
Social media was filled with shocking images and footage of the blaze, with users hoping residents were safe.
One eyewitness told Yonhap News Agency the fire came without warning, and said: “Suddenly, the fire came up. The windows were broken and the living room and bedroom lit up.”

Another eyewitness told YNP they believed “exterior material”, which could potentially be insulation, attached to the outside of the building that caused the fire to spread quickly.
But Ulsan Fire Department stated the cause of the blaze remains unknown at this time.
No immediate deaths or serious injuries have been reported by authorities.
Australian news agency SBS reported one resident was distraught over the blaze, and said: “I don’t know where my family is.”
The building has not been completely extinguished due to the heat and embers being flared by the winds.
Social media footage shows the middle of the apartment tower smoulder with smoke the morning after the incident.
More fears emerged during the incident as large piece of burning debris could be seen facing from the tower.
Ulsan is the eighth-largest city in South Korea, and is home to 1.1 million residents.
