Playful dachshund wriggles with excitement when he goes paddling at beach

Footage of a dachshund splashing around while having the time of his life at the beach has gone down a storm with dog-lovers on TikTok.

In the clip, uploaded by user @thatdachshundfamily, a man gently holds a black and tan sausage dog above a shallow pool of water in the sand.

The dog wags his tail and starts rolling around in the water as he paddles around.

Meanwhile, his brother runs over to see what all the fuss is about and jumps at the other dog enthusiastically when he climbs out of the pool.

Giving himself a good shake, the dachshund dries off in the sun while the other pooch has a burst of "zoomies" and runs around him.

The video was "liked" more than 4,000 times by dachshund fans who were blown away with the pup's cute antics and his brother's reaction.

One viewer joked: "This is how fish sausage was born."

A delighter dog lover wrote: "How beautiful, mine escapes from the puddles."

"Haha awww," gushed another fan.

But some viewers were critical of the footage and suggested that dachshunds, with their strange body type, are not designed for swimming.

"You shouldn’t do that because their legs are too short to swim," wrote one person.

A second viewer wrote: "That’s the bad thing about them.

"They can’t climb stairs and get tired very quickly because of their weight and their legs are very small."

Dachshunds can be taught to swim and often love playing in the water, but are not particularly strong because of their short legs and so must be supervised at all times, according to barkhow.com.

Water therapy can also be useful for pooches with back problems, which dachshunds are particularly susceptible to, according to the site.

In another cute sausage dog video, a dachshund was filmed getting ridiculously excited about being slid around on the polished floor by his owner.

The cute pup launches himself at his owner over and over again to be pushed along.

And an angry dachshund took an instant disliking to a door stopper and was caught on video attacking it repeatedly.

Meanwhile, a dachshund puppy had such a heartbreaking reaction to being separated from its litter mate that the woman who bought the dog returned it so they wouldn't have to be apart.
