‘Ninja’ mugger beaten when he tries to snatch etiquette expert’s purse

A mugger wearing a full-on ninja costume learned a valuable lesson when he attacked an etiquette teacher who happens to do a fair bit of kickboxing in her spare time.

Myka Meier was walking down a street in New York’s Chelsea district with her 3-year-old daughter shortly after 9 a.m on Monday, September 28.

The man wearing an all-black martial arts outfit sprang at her, but got a surprise when Myka gave as good as she got, fighting off the costumed villain long enough for help to arrive.

“I think he was shocked that I fought back,” Myka told the New York Daily News.

“I think I was more aggressive than he [expected]," she said, "but I train for this stuff. I leave my manners classes and I go kickbox.”

Two blokes from a nearby building site heard the commotion and, along with the doorman of a building on the street, chased the robber down W. 22nd St. and Ninth Avenue.

“There was a little tug of war over the bag for maybe about a second, and then he started running, once I think he saw the attention coming,” Myka said.

“The doorman and the two construction workers did their thing and just grabbed him and held him,” she added.

Mike says the would-be mugger was wearing “a black ninja costume with a red cloth around his forehead.” She says she had done into “full on mama bear mode” because her young daughter was with her at the time.

“I don’t want to be seen as the helpless victim,” she continued. “I teach etiquette at the Plaza Hotel. I am always in a dress and high heels, but I want people to know that you can be ladylike and fight off an attacker at the same time.”

A man was arrested at the scene and Myka says she hopes he stays off the streets.

“This isn’t an innocent person,” she said. “This is a violent man that would attack a mom with her child.”

She added that she might have just handed over purse if she’d been thinking clearly.

Casique Roman, 41, of Hackensack, Jersey was detained by police and charged with robbery.

Roman reportedly has a long string of arrests for offences including possession of drug paraphernalia and criminal mischief.
