Monster 7ft7 alligator attacks woman, 43, as she’s walking her dog by lake

A woman had a narrow escape after being attacked by a terrifying 7ft 7in alligator while walking her dog.

The pet owner, 43, was left with severe injuries to her lower right leg after being bitten by the reptile in Florida, US.

Witnesses claimed the creature had tried to grab her dog as she walked by a small lake in Palm Harbor in Pinellas County on Tuesday, June 8.

She quickly grabbed her pooch, but slipped down and was pounced on by the gator.

The beast chomped on her leg before slipping back into the water, according to local media.

Her boyfriend rushed to help and took off his trousers to tie round to stop the bleeding, local media reported.

The pet owner was taken to hospital for treatment after the nighttime attack.

Officials from the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission went to the area and were able to find the alligator and trap it.

Photos from the scene show them holding down the beast, which had its mouth taped shut.

Gene Vance, who lives in the area, told Fox 13: "I was walking my dog and all of a sudden I looked back and I see this lady kinda falling by the lake a little bit and apparently she was walking her dog close to the edge of the lake.

"It looked like the gator tried to get the dog but she grabbed the dog really quickly, but in turn, she slipped down and the gator got her leg just underneath the knee."

She went on: "It was like one chomp and then he went back into the water."

He said he called emergency services to the scene while the woman’s girlfriend rushed to her aid.

Mr Vance claimed to have seen the same creature sitting out on the grass, which he described as a "pretty big gator".

He added he had seen it walking before so he always tries to avoid the area near to the water, because "it happens".

Authorities urged people to be careful walking around the water at dawn and dusk, as this is when alligators are most active, CBS Miami reported.
