Model evicted from £15k beach hut because ‘bullying’ locals are ‘jealous of her’

A woman says she had a “full breakdown” after a campaign by locals led to Worthing Borough Council removing her beach hut.

Michele Spicer says that people in Goring-by-Sea are “jealous of me because I'm glamorous,” and have waged a “bullying” campaign of complaints over parking, dog poo and a public toilet.

Mum-of-two Michele bought the hut at Goring-by-Sea, West Sussex, last year, to create a relaxing 'mermaid haven'.

But she claims things turned sour following accusations of ‘antisocial behaviour’ by neighbours.

She parked her Mercedes in a "private" car park, prompting angry locals to leave notes and even dog poo on it, she claims.

She claims they objected to her campaigns to re-open a closed public toilet as well as where she parked her car because they were “jealous of her”.

Last month Worthing Borough Council stepped in, removing Michele’s hut from its spot and changing the locks, she claims.

Retired teacher Michele said: “I went to the beach hut one morning a few weeks ago and the locks were changed – then it was removed without my knowledge.

"I am just a beach hut owner quietly enjoying the area because it's good for my mental health – but neighbours started bullying me and conspiring against me.

"I don't think there is anything wrong with my parking – and I only tried to get a toilet re-opened."

"I did nothing but good for the community – but they're jealous of me because I'm glamorous.

"It feels like this has ruined my life – I've lost my beloved beach hut."

Michele purchased the beach hut last year as a "safe haven" following her divorce.

She said she spent months renovating it, and says it's now worth £35,000.

She said notes calling her an "idiot" and telling her she was "p***ing residents off" were left on her car windscreen following a campaign she made to have a nearby public toilet re-opened.

Although the loo's on council-owned land, local residents pay a service charge for its upkeep and objected to her demands, she claims.

She said: "I didn't do anything wrong – but because I model and I have a nice car, they have a certain impression of me."

Her neighbours, who she describes as "bullies", reported her to Worthing Borough Council for antisocial behaviour, she claims.

And when she went to visit the hut on October 22, she found the locks had been changed before it was later removed from its spot entirely, she said.

She says it had been moved to the front of the sailing club – with all her belongings still inside.

She said: "I had a full breakdown on the beach when I couldn't find it.

"When I did, I found it had been damaged beyond repair and all my belongings were still inside.

"My pride and joy was taken without me even knowing about it."

Michele said she wants it moved to her garden in Worthing and "won't give up" until she gets "justice", and she's taking legal action against the council.

Michele said: "Honestly it's ruined my life – I've experienced a hell of a lot of stress.

"I'm just a normal beach hut owner – I come to the beach for a walk for my mental health and I'm sociable with the other owners.

"I've done nothing wrong – it's a conspiracy against me to get me removed.

"I think it's because they're jealous of me because I'm a model and I'm very glamorous with a sports car.

A spokesperson for Worthing Borough Council said: "We are sorry it has come to this but for the first time in about 25 years we have had to take eviction action at one of our beach huts.

"The number of complaints received from local residents really left us with no choice but to conclude that Mrs Spicer has breached the terms of her lease."
