Royal fans have poured scorn on an open letter written by Prince Harry and Meghan Markle this week.
The message, co-signed by a leading World Health Organisation official, asks G20 leaders to take more action to distribute Covid vaccines to poorer nations.
It is their second political letter in as many weeks, and the couple will be hoping it will be more successful than the first.
It comes after a heartfelt letter sent by the Duchess of Sussex to US politicians last week to encourage them to support paid parental leave in the United States appears to have failed, after Joe Biden left the scheme out of his new spending plans.
However, some on Twitter are suggesting that this new correspondence has been timed with a more cynical goal — namely to take attention away from the involvement of the Royal Family in the global Cop26 UN climate summit, which begins in Glasgow on Sunday.
One user claimed: "I think it’s because they know Charles, William & their wives are going".
Another was even more scathing, this time on their authority to write such a letter, tweeting: "They don’t know anything because in the grand scheme they are nobody of importance. They are not world leaders or presidents or prime ministers. She is only the wife of a prince who gave up his royalty."
However, not all royal fans believed it was a calculated move by the Sussexes as part of a reported royal rift.
A Meghan fan responded to this to defend the Duchess, saying: "Yet she’s respected by world leaders and Presidents where she’s kicking goals and getting stuff done, positively impacting the lives of those less fortunate."
Others simply wrote off the entire exercise as a PR stunt and claimed that they had not said anything other royals had not done previously.
Another claimed: "Fact check they are not working Royals are Prince Harry and Meghan Markle and our Royals have spoke out about the vaccine. Pr stunt from the Markles."
It comes after other members of the royal family have urged for change in global issues, including Prince Charles pleading with world leaders to make a difference to combat climate change for future generations this week.
Prince Harry's brother William has also made announcements asking for more support on this issue in the past.
The Duchess of Sussex and her husband Prince Harry announced they would be stepping back from Royal duties when they moved to the US earlier last year.
