A man has been arrested after an egg was reportedly throw in the direction of King Charles during a walkabout.

The man, in his 20s, is now in custody suspected of common assault after the foodstuff was allegedly thrown at the monarch in Luton town centre, Bedfordshire Police confirmed.

Charles had been greeting members of the public when he was steered away from the crowd outside Luton Town Hall by security staff following the incident, which happened shortly after his arrival.

He was then moved to a different area and carried on shaking hands with members of the public.

This isn't the first time the common baking item has been hurled at the King – less than a month ago an Extinction Rebellion protester pelted Charles with several eggs.
