Horror as woman is buried alive for 11 days with ‘screams and banging’ heard

Woman found dead in coffin 11 days being buried alive

This is the moment a group of shocked people took the lid off a coffin where a woman is reported to have spent 11 days struggling to get out after being buried alive.

The ordeal unfolded in the northeastern town of Riachao das Neves, Brazil, sparking concerns about the safety of burial procedures and the unimaginable horror that the woman endured.

Rosangela Almeida dos Santos, 37, was laid to rest in the Senhora Santana cemetery, but an unimaginable nightmare seemed to have unfolded beneath the surface.

During her apparent struggle to break free, her screams went unheard, and she sustained severe injuries to her wrists as she fought for her life in the cramped confines of her coffin.

Local authorities were eventually alerted after residents living near the cemetery began hearing eerie screams and loud banging emanating from within the tomb.

The reports prompted Rosangela’s family to spring into action, culminating in a heart-wrenching discovery that has left the entire town in shock.

A video captured the moment when Rosangela’s family, accompanied by concerned locals, hastily removed the heavy lid of the tomb in a desperate bid to rescue her.

In the video, emotions ran high as some individuals could be heard requesting an ambulance while others touched Rosangela’s feet.

However, despite the valiant efforts, Rosangela’s lifeless body was eventually retrieved from the tomb, casting a pall of grief over the community.

Upon closer examination, it became evident that Rosangela had fought vehemently to escape her suffocating confinement.

Injuries to her hands and forehead suggested that she had clawed at the walls of the coffin in a desperate attempt to break free.

Notably, cotton wool, which had been placed in her ears and nostrils, had been dislodged from her body, adding to the evidence of her struggle.

The lid of the coffin bore signs of a fierce struggle with scratch marks and bloodstains discovered. Her family members attested that the injuries and damage observed were absent when she was initially laid to rest.

Rosangela’s medical history painted a picture of a woman who battled health challenges for years. She had been admitted to the Hospital do Oeste in Barreiras, Bahia, due to severe fatigue and had suffered two cardiac arrests before succumbing to “septic shock,” as detailed in her official death certificate.

Germana de Almeida, 66, Rosangela’s grieving mother, expressed profound distress at the traumatic events that unfolded. She noted that the injuries Rosangela sustained within the coffin were inconsistent with those present at the time of burial, raising questions about the circumstances surrounding her death and subsequent interment.

She said: “She had tried to open the lid, even the nails that had been hammered in were loose. Her hands were injured, like she had been trying to get out.”
