A suspected gunman remains at large after killing a father as he walked into a restaurant with his daughter's birthday cake.
The tragedy saw Calogero Duenes, 24, and a father-of-two, gunned down as he was visiting a Chuck E. Cheese restaurant in Texas with his family for one of the kids' sixth birthday.
His wife, Amber Uresti, told Fox 8 that the two men had got in an argument which culminated in Duenes being gunned down as he carried the cake over to the table.
She said: "It’s a tragedy. I really can’t wrap my head around it.
"Like, I’m hurt. I can’t understand how someone can do that to someone that’s holding a cake.
"We just went to go celebrate my daughter’s sixth birthday. I mean, that’s all he was tasked with. That’s all he had on him was a cake."
Police rushed to the scene after hearing gunshots but said that the suspect fled using a black or burgundy Ford before they arrived.
Duenes was then transported to hospital before he sadly died.
"My husband passed without me, without anybody to hold his hand, to comfort him. I want justice. I want justice for my children, for Calogero," Uresti said.
His wife has set up a GoFundMe page (here) to raise funds for his funeral expenses. It has already surpassed $30,000 (£22,150).
The GoFundMe page explains: "As he was walking a vehicle approached him & tried to run him over and fatally shot him.
"Our entire family is devastated in this tragedy
"He left behind 2 baby girls, Serina Divine Duenes 6 yrs old & Mallory Elizabeth Duenes 3 yrs old.
"This is not how we expected to start the new year. Anything helps to give him the burial he deserves.
"We will keep y’all updated on funeral arrangements & visiting hrs."
Houston, where the incident took place, saw rising homicide rates from 2020 to 2021.
