A suspect has been arrested in connection to a Denver shooting on East Colfax Avenue that killed one man and injured five other victims.
Dexter Martinez, 24, was arrested on Wednesday near East 2nd Avenue and Logan Street, police said in a news release. Martinez is being held on investigation of first-degree murder and five counts of first-degree attempted murder.
The brazen daylight shooting happened at about 1:30 p.m. on Nov. 1 near East Colfax Avenue and Verbena Street. Three suspects got out of a vehicle and opened fire at a group of people on the sidewalk near the Michael Convenience Store. Four men, including the victim who died at the scene, and two women were shot.
A witness, with military experience, said he heard about 20 to 30 gunshots the day of the shooting. “It sounded like a freakin’ war,” said Stephen Gile, who works at the Airway Motel across the street from the incident.
An investigation is ongoing.
