A 22-year-old man has been arrested as a suspect in a drive-by shooting in West Denver.

Samuel David Anthony is being held for investigation of attempted first-degree murder, police said.

The incident happened at about 4:40 p.m. Tuesday outside Villa Park Liquors, 3455 W. 10th Ave., according to an arrest warrant affidavit.

Two men had gone to the store after work when they encountered two other men who were there. A confrontation in the parking lot erupted and one man used mace on another.

Then, one man who had arrived in a black four-door BMW pointed a gun at the other pair, including the man who had sprayed the mace. A shot was not fired, however, and both men got into the BMW and drove off, the affidavit said.

The driver of the BMW, with Virginia plates, circled the block and as the car returned shots were fired from the vehicle, hitting one victim in the wrist. The victim was taken to Denver Health Medical Center and treated for the wound.

Investigators used surveillance video and photos of the suspect to connect him to the crime, the affidavit said.
