Denver-area man missing on Summit County hike

A Denver-area man who was hiking in Summit County is missing and a search is underway.

Ken May, 71, left the Willowbrook trailhead on Wednesday morning with plans to summit Mount Silverthorne, according to Summit County Rescue.

May’s last known point was on a ridge where he took a photo. His GPS tracking device shows him descending the ridgeline toward Salmon Lake. Mount Silverthorne, 13,357-feet in elevation, is the third highest peak in the Gore Range.

May is described as 5 feet, 6 inches tall and about 130 pounds. He was wearing khaki hiking pants and either a helmet or a broad-brimmed sunhat. May wears glasses and he is carrying a blue backpack.

His GPS device is no longer sending updates.

Searchers looked for him Wednesday night and the effort continues today. Any hikers in the area who may have information on May are asked to call 970-33-9856.
