Dead body found in London bin lorry as cops probe grisly discovery

The dead body of a man has been found in a bin lorry in south London this morning.

Police swooped on the scene in Camberwell at 5.35am.

They are now investigating the tragedy, which is so far unexplained.

A Metropolitan Police spokesman said: "Police were called at approximately 5:35am on Monday, 24 February to reports of a man’s body found in the rear of a bin lorry in Bethwin Road, SE5.

"Officers and London Ambulance Service attended. "The man – no further details – was pronounced dead at the scene.

"At this stage, the death is being treated as unexplained. Enquiries into the circumstances continue."

Images that surfaced after the discovery show fire engines swarming the scene.

The person found dead has not yet been named.

It is also not clear how the person died or how he came to be inside the bin lorry.

One image that has surfaced shows a Biffa lorry at the scene.

However it is not yet confirmed if this is the lorry the bin was found in.

Daily Star Online has approached Biffa for comment.
