Brit who fell from 100ft cliff at selfie spot died from ‘multiple head injuries’

An Instagram star who plunged 100ft from a cliff at a notorious selfie spot died from multiple head injuries, an inquest heard.

Madalyn Davis is reported to have been watching the sunrise at Diamond Bay near Sydney when she fell from the cliff edge.

The 21-year-old, from Bawtry, Yorks, had been backpacking around Australia when she was reported missing by pals.

She was a popular star on Instagram, with more than 21,000 followers, and also ran a YouTube Channel where she gave beauty tips.

The inquest has now opened into her death and heard that she died on January 12.

Her body was found by search teams four hours after she had been first reported missing by pals.

Brief details were given before assistant coroner Gordon Clow adjourned the hearing awaiting more evidence on her death, reports LincolnshireLive.

Mr Clow said: "A post mortem examination has been carried out. The provisional cause of death is multiple head injuries."

At the end of the three-minute hearing at Nottingham Council House, Mr Clow said: "I offer my sincere condolences to the family and friends of Madalyn Davis for her passing."

In the weeks before her death, the Instagram star, from Lincoln, had started to travel the world – heading to Thailand and Bali before visiting Australia.

Social media posts before her death had Madalyn declaring she never wanted to go back to her old life.

And she waspictured partying with palsjust days before she tragically died in the cliff plunge.

Her family issued a Facebook statement saying: "Our world span on an axis we hope no-one else will have to ever endure. Our beloved daughter was taken from us following a tragic accident.

"Madalyn was a daughter, a sister, a friend, a cousin, a niece, a granddaughter and above all the most amazing woman whom we are all so proud of.”

Her bereaved parents added: “Her accidental passing has been so sudden and has rocked us to our core.

“There will forever be a hole in our lives, a hole our family can barely face comprehending. Madalyn was an introverted extrovert.

"She struggled with a world that could be so unkind and was a good person that always saw the best in people. Sadly, sometimes that was taken advantage of.

"We could not be prouder of our most beautiful daughter for everything she achieved and all the lives she touched."

Following Madalyn’s death, cruel trolls took aim at the young model and accused of being at fault for her death.

Her mum Rebecca Smith launched a passionate response and the family have also be running a fundraiser to crackdown on cyber bullying.

“I am her mother and I am heartbroken – how can you be so cruel?,” she wrote on Instagram.

“My daughter was not self-obsessed. She was a wonderful, beautiful person that made a mistake. How can you write such things?

“She has a little brother and sister who would be reading this.”

Rebecca, a yoga teacher, said Madalyn still faced every day with “a smile on her face” and had a “passion and zest for life”.

She added: “Over the last few months Madalyn had the opportunity to live her dream if only for a bittersweet space of time.

“We couldn't be prouder of our most beautiful girl for everything she achieved and the lives she touched.

“She packed more into her short years than we could possibly have hoped for. She was an inspiration to many, including us as parents.”

Hundreds of friends and family, in response, took to the Instagram influencer’s social media page to defend her memory, posting emotional tributes to her.

Heather Widdup, principal of Retford Oaks Academy where Madalyn was a former pupil, paid tribute to a "much-liked, popular and well-respected member of the academy community".

She said: “Our deepest condolences go out to Madalyn's family and friends at this very difficult time.”

Jane Hopkinson, head teacher of the Priory Academy LSST in Lincoln, where the eyelash technician studied before attending Retford, said the community was "shocked and saddened by such a terrible tragedy".

"All of our thoughts are with her family and loved ones as they try to cope with this heartbreaking news," she said.
