Baby girl dies in hospital as man charged with attempted murder

A baby girl who was seriously injured following an incident has now died.

The four-month-old girl was rushed to Alder Hey children's Hospital on Thursday.

Police confirmed on Monday that she had died the day before.

Authorities say a murder investigation has been launched and a man has been charged with attempted murder.

A Home Office post-mortem examination will now be carried out to try and establish the baby's cause of death.

Lancashire Constabulary says the four-month-old baby girl had been found seriously injured at a property in Onslow Road, Layton, at 6.05pm on Thursday, December 3.

After the girl was found and taken to safety, a 28-year-old man from Blackpool then arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm.

Jordan Lee, 28, of Onslow Road, Blackpool, was then charged with attempted murder and the police's investigation continues.

At the time, DCI Eric Halford, of Blackpool Police, said: "Firstly, my thoughts are with the loved ones of the baby girl at this incredibly difficult time. She remains in hospital in a critical condition and her family are being supported by specially trained officers.

"While a man has been charged, our investigation is very much ongoing and I would ask anyone with information or anyone who saw or heard anything suspicious in the area around that time to contact police."

A decision will be made in due course in consultation with the Crown Prosecution Service on any further charges, police have said.

Anyone with information should call police on 101, quoting log 1135 of December 3rd, 2020 or independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
