Astonishing moment mum throws kids out of window to save them from fire

A mum was caught in terrifying footage rescuing her four children from a raging fire inside an apartment.

In a video filmed from the street in Istanbul, Turkey, the frantic mum is leaning out of the third-floor window as thick black smoke pours out around her.

She then reappears in the window holding a child, who she drops feet-first out of the window and down into a sheet being held open by heroic residents below.

The bystanders are using the sheet as a makeshift crash net and shout up to her, encouraging her to drop the kids down to safety.

She then carefully releases a second child, who lands safely in the middle of the blanket, and a third who is also unharmed in the fall.

The shocking incident unfolded on Wednesday, February 24, in the Esenler district, dailysabah.com reports.

A neighbour who helped rescue the children told the title: "First, black smoke started to come out

"Then, the children started shouting from the windows. And we opened the blankets.

"A woman threw the children down from above so we caught four kids with blankets."

The fire was extinguished and authorities said the children were safe and well but the condition of the mother, who wasn't filmed escaping the building, did not get reported.

This comes after a mum and dad and their four-year-old daughter were tragically killed in a house fire in Exeter.

Their three other children, two boys aged nine and four and a seven-year-old girl, survived the fire and are in hospital in a "stable" condition.
