Alleged Isle of Skye shooter named as he appears in court charged with murder

The man accused of going on a shooting spree on the Isle of Skye, Scotland on Wednesday (August 10) has been named.

The incident left one man dead and three other people seriously injured. The alleged gunman has been charged with murder as well as attempted murder.

Finlay MacDonald, 39, appeared at Inverness Sheriff Court facing those charges. One of the people he is accused of attempting to murder is his wife.

John MacKinnon, 47, has been identified as the man who died. He was killed before the alleged gunman went on to attack to others.

MacKinnon's grieving family released a statement today in which he was described as a "loving husband and a much-loved member of the community".

The incident started at around 9am in Tarskavaig, Skye, when the first alleged victim was stabbed in a house.

She has been named locally as MacKinnon's sister-in-law, Rowena MacDonald.

MacKinnon was then reportedly shot dead by the alleged shooter seven miles away in Teangue.

Two further victims have been named as osteopath John D Mackenzie, 63, and his wife, mental health nurse Fay Mackenzie, 63.

Rowena MacDonald sustained serious injuries and was airlifted to Glasgow's Queen Elizabeth University Hospital.

Mr MacKenzies was taken to Raigmore Hospital, his wife to Broadford Hospital.
