Bear in mind that Andrew Sabisky resigned because he’d considered himself “a distraction” to the Government. Not through any kind of shame relating to his racist, repulsive opinions.
In fact, had they not been uncovered last weekend, this white supremacist would still have the ear of the man running the country.
It should concern us all too that Dominic Cummings saw fit to even employ a man who put into print his belief that black and Asian people are less intelligent than whites and that benefit claimants should have fewer children.
While millions of us are busy checking our behaviour and urging each other to be kind after Caroline Flack's tragic death, with racism in sport flourishing and social media still a cesspit, the government has been busy empowering a man convinced he is part of the master race.
Did the Prime Minister agree with his views? Well, given more than 30 opportunities to condemn them on Monday, Boris Johnson’s spokesman would not.
Bear in mind too that Cummings didn’t sack him. Sabinsky walked.
Tory government now says Andrew Sabisky's comments were 'racist' in shameless U-turn
Amazon UK warehouses hit by more than 600 serious injuries in three years
Even now, you shudder to imagine what “special projects” he could have been working on at the behest of the Tory Party puppet master.
It is inconceivable that neither he nor Johnson were aware of the Sabisky view of the world that bore sinister similarities to 1940’s Germany.
That right there, for so many fair-minded Tories, is the dark side of what you voted for. A leadership committed to division and insulting millions of people across the country with black or brown skin. Your friends, your neighbours and your work-mates.
These are just some of the Sabisky views that surfaced last weekend.
In one post from 2014, he suggested that politicians should pay attention to “very real racial differences to intelligence” when designing the immigration system.
In a 2014 blog he argued: “One way to get around problems of unplanned pregnancies creating a permanent underclass would be to legally enforce universal uptake of long-term contraception at the onset of puberty.”
He has also tweeted that women’s sport was “more comparable to the Paralympics than it is to men’s”
And three years ago he said: Eugenics are about selecting ‘for’ good things. Intelligence is largely inherited and correlates with better outcomes: physical health, income, lower mental illness.”
Anyone can have views from back in the day that they’d be mortified at now. Sabisky could have tried to move on from his on Monday – the guy is still in his twenties, after all. Instead he simply walked away from the grenade he’d detonated.
Oh, and sorry, Kwasi Kwarteng, Priti Patel and all the other black and Asian members of the cabinet pouring scorn on Sabinsky. You don’t get, suddenly, to be outraged at this racist masquerading as an intellectual.
Not when you are willing to go on TV, radio, into print or take to the Despatch Box to defend Johnson’s well-documented xenophobia.
Not when you walk out of the Chamber when Labour MP David Lammy is posing urgent questions about the hostile environment policy being pursued by a government whose end game is to purge this country of its immigrants.
Not when you weaponise your own immigrant background when it suits you, only to demonise the people trying to make a life for themselves as your parents did.
You are just as much an apologist for Sabisky as Johnson. And let’s be clear, a half-hearted condemnation from no.10 after the horse has bolted isn’t fooling anybody.
