Thistle Seafoods, based in Aberdeenshire, said Scottish independence could see the business closing operations because the majority of its trade is with England. The seafood company is one of the biggest in the UK and employs 550 people, generating more than £100million a year from its range of products.
The company, which produces fish cakes and breaded fillets, last night warned Scottish independence would have the same disruptive effect as “Brexit on steroids”.
Managing director Ryan Scatterty added: ”If there was independence we might have to relocate to our main market south of the border.”
Now, Britons have mocked the Scottish First Minister claiming independence will be Ms Sturgeon’s downfall.
One Express.co.uk reader said: “I should like to know what extra powers the SNP expect to gain if they achieve independence.
“I always believed that the Scots were careful when it came to money but I am beginning to think that is just a myth.”
Another person added: “I would agree that the SNP wouldn’t care if Scotland went down the pan.”
Someone else said: “Sturgeon knows there will be an exodus of major employers leaving Scotland but the terrifying thing is that she does not care as it’s independence at any cost whatsoever.”
Others accused Ms Sturgeon and the SNP of bankrupting and “embarrassing” Scotland.
A fourth reader said: “Scotland under Sturgeon has become bankrupt and embarrassing.”
Another person pointed out how if Scotland rejoins the EU, they would not be independent but “ruled by Brussels”.
Someone else said: “SNP are a clear and present danger to the prosperity of Scotland.
“Scrap devolution and save Scotland from the extreme xenophobic nationalists that is the SNP.”

A spokesman for Scottish Rural Affairs Secretary Mairi Gougeon said: “An independent Scotland in the EU will have the best of both worlds.
“It would be able to trade with the rest of the UK as well as being in the European single market, which is seven times bigger than the UK.”
The news comes as the SNP Alyn Smith appeared on France24 and called on the “international audience” to recognise Scotland as “progressive”.
He said that the SNP’s recent success at the Scottish elections was a strong mandate for another independence referendum.
Mr Smith replied to a comment about whether the recent independence results could be seen as a mandate and said: “Yes it does, and one short of a majority yes.
“But it is really important for an international audience to know that the Scottish Parliament has a progressive voting system.”
